This coming up July 25th to 29th, Cali will be hosting the 5th U18 World Fistball Championships.  Club Comfenalco in the Valle de Lili part of town will be the event headquarters.

There will be eight boys’ teams from two different continents, Europe and South America, and seven girls’ teams from the same.  The participating countries are Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Brail, Argentina, Chile, and Colombia.  Colombia will only be represented in the men’s division.

The event will kick off on Wednesday July 25th at 3:00 in the afternoon with a boys match between Germany, the last U18 champion from 2010, and Colombia, the host country.  The afternoon will continue with the first girls match at 3:45 between Germany and Brazil.  It’s also worth noting that the German girl’s team also came in first place at the last U18 World Championships in Lloret de Mar, Spain.  The matches lead up to the launching ceremony later that same afternoon.

The preliminary rounds continue on Thursday and Friday with forty-one matches altogether.  The semi-finals and finals will be held on Saturday and Sunday, the 28th and 29th, to conclude the five day event.

Colombia was invited by the IFA, International Fistball Association, to participate in these world championships as the host country of The World Games 2013 Cali.  Fistball traces it’s origins to Europe, but is now practiced worldwide.  Regionally it has become very popular in Brazil, Argentina, and Chile.
